The standards for cryogenic insulation materials require API, ASTM and EN compliance to achieve safe and effective results.

All insulation materials must meet global codes because safety and performance depend on it.

The following section explains the essential specifications and testing procedures along with compliance procedures.

1. API (American Petroleum Institute)

The material requirements include density classes and compressive strength exceeding 150 kPa at -196°C and moisture content below 0.5%.

API 625 standard evaluates thermal performance while the API 622 standard assesses joint integrity under vacuum conditions.

The API-accredited labs must perform third-party certification and annual re-validation audits for compliance.

2. ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials)

The material requirements include thermal conductivity (λ) ≤ 0.035 W/m·K at 77 K together with tensile strength and dimensional stability.

Testing methods include: The Guarded-Hot-Plate method described in ASTM C177/C518 must be used to test materials at cryogenic temperatures.

ASTM C303 evaluates the bulk density and settling behavior of molded perlite.

The supplier follows ISO 9001 quality management standards and provides test reports that follow ASTM protocols for compliance.

3. EN (European Norms)

EN 13164/65 standard requires rigid foams to achieve minimum compressive stress at 10% strain while EN 1602 sets requirements for bulk density.

The testing methods include: EN 12667 (Heat Flow Meter) measures λ-value at –150 °C. EN 12431 evaluates the water absorption of materials when placed under vacuum conditions.

CE marking process requires notification from bodies that issue standard declarations.

API, ASTM and EN standards provide interoperability while reducing risks and streamlining project approvals between different markets.
